Costa Rica - Butterflies & Moth

Costa Rica has almost 1.500species of butterflies flying around, so you can imagine, that there is a very good chance to see many of them.:-) There are several beautiful species which can be observed easily in the forests, like one of the most beautiful ones: the Morpho butterflies, the Owl butterflies, the Malachite, the Glass wing butterflies just to mention a few.

You will be amazed when you see a Blue Morpho butterfly for the first time, it will give you the sensation to be in a dream or in a fairy tale. At gardens and forest trails you will also have a good chance to see a lot of other species of butterflies depending on the period of time when you come, but there are always good number of flowery trees and fruits around.

At feeders we put out bananas, papayas which always attract butterflies as well, not only birds. Muddy patches on trails and a composte pile in the garden can be a good place to see some further species.

During the evenings when conditions are suitable we can check out the incredible variety of moth species attracted by the lights.

Below we write down some of the details of a 12-day-long Butterfly & Moth itinerary with Birds mentioned as well. This tour concentrates on mainly the Central and South Pacific Region and the Talamanca Mountain, but please note that we can offer different length of tour with visiting other parts of Costa Rica as well. Please send us an email to ecotoursgabororban at gmail.com and we tailor-make a tour for you.
