Botany tour

During this tour we visit two different areas. One of them, Kiskunság is a perfect plain, while the other, Börzsöny Hill is the first member of the North-Hungarian Mountains. Both areas partly covered and protected by different national parks. One of the most interesting part of the "Great Hungarian Plain", locally called "The Puszta" in Hungarian, is Kiskunság. Most of the area is covered by loess and/or sand, dotted with reeds, wet marshes, bogs, pastures, forests and steppes. As it has special saline vegetation and alkali lakes, it has special interest for both botanists and birders. Then to feel the contrast, we climb up to the hills. Börzsöny Hills belong to our newest national park, the Danube-Ipoly NP. This area is renowned for its castles and for its hundreds of springs. The flora and fauna of the hills is most diverse: there are several glacial plant relicts among the 70 protected plant species which live here and more then 90 species of birds breed regularly. The Ipoly Valley is one of the most intact areas of the National Park with wet meadows, alder wood, special flowers, almost all Hungarian amphibian species and innumerable species of birds.
