Due to perfect soil types, moderate climate and long traditions Hungary has always been an outstanding agricultural area in Europe.
Proportion of the cultivated land compared to the total area of Hungary is one of the highest in Europe. Half of the total area (93030sq.km) is arable land (47130sq.km), where the most important crops are corn, wheat and sunflower, mostly special Hungarian hybrids and variations. We boast of plenty of different wine-regions (vineyards on 1380sq.km) which produce several sought after top-quality wines such as Tokaji Aszu or Bull's Blood.
Gardens (3410sq.km) and orchards (950sq.km) yield an extremely wide variety of different vegetables and fruits.
Animal husbandry utilizes pastures and meadows (11860sq.km), while on the remaining areas we can find some forests and extensive reeds.

Beside intensive agriculture we pay attention to keep the old traditions and protect the original, traditional breeds as well such as the Great Grey Hungarian Cattle, Mangalica Pig, Racka Sheep, Lipiczaner Stud and many more.
