Americas / Cuba
Cuba is one of the most interesting Caribbean islands due to its rich avifauna comprising of 24 endemics and many Caribbean endemics, which are also found here. North American migrants also pass through the island or spend the winter in large numbers. Almost 350 bird species have been recorded in Cuba.
This long island is mostly characterised by lowlands, but there are three mountain chains: the Cordilleras to the West, Sierra del Escambray in the centre and Sierra Maestra to the East. One of the most famous places is the Zapata Marsh, located South East of Havana that supports 19 of the 25 endemics. We also visit the Soroa region, La Belén National Park and the cayes for a relaxed and colourful birding trip.
